Therese is the oldest of the Lisbon girls, and is acknowledged as the "brains". She shares the mysteriousness and beauty of her character with all the Lisbon girls, but her character is not extensively explored. Therese is the only one who seems conscious of the isolation from other teens, their "freak" quality - when with her date at the Prom she accuses him of only going with her out of pity. When he denies this she calls him a liar, showing a weary view to other's opinions, and suggests that she has heard the whispered rumours that circulate about the infamous Lisbon girls. Therese's suicide involved an overdose of sleeping pills, washed down with gin. She was the first to do it - when the boys arrive at the Lisbon house and are talking to Lux, she is already dead.
